Liverpool’s classy Spanish central midfielder Xabi Alonso has been targeted by Atletico Madrid as their number one player to purchase.

The reds signed the player from Real Sociedad for £10 million two years ago, but with the player’s contract due to expire in 30 months time, according to Spanish newspaper AS Diario, Xabi is the top target for the side from the Spanish capital.

Figures in the Spanish press note that Atletico value the player at around £15 million but Liverpool have so far refused to comment on the speculation.

The Spanish newspaper hints that Alonso himself may be interested in the return to Spain, with Athletico currently lying 4th in La Liga and aiming for Champions League Football.

Never ever even in rafa’s wildest dreams will he let go of his classy cm. xabi will form a great partnership with Stevie and A madrid will be deprived of their target. Madrid need someone more like Milner or Sibierski. ha ha ha!!!

Xabi wont leave and he is too good a player to let go for any price.

Rafa will go before Xabi. He is a real asset to Liverpool.
