Be the first Have your say

Liverpool striker Neil Mellor who has been suffering with a serious knee problem brought on by infection has moved to Wigan Athletic on loan till the end of the season. The latics also brought in old Liverpool boy David Thompson. Both players have moved with the prospect of permanent moves.

Neil Mellor has become a backroom figure at Anfield since that goal against Arsenal last season, and has struggled with a knee condition brought on by an infection he picked up…

Mellor’s last game for Liverpool was just over a year ago, the FA Cup Third Round defeat at Burnley.

He has fell behind the pecking order of Crouch, Cisse, Morientes, Sinama Pongolle and with Kewell and Garcia able to play up front he is currently surplus to requirements in a season in which (touch wood) the reds have been remarkably fortunate surrounding injuries.
