In dramatic developments today, work on the new Anfield stadium has been temporarily halted after Liverpool’s new owners, days in to taking control of the new club, are looking at plans to build the Premiership’s biggest football stadium.
It now appears that both Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jnr were unimpressed by the lack of ambition shown by the previous board in settling for a 61,000 seater stadium. Bringing their own unique American brand of ’supersizing’ it is believed plans are being looked at to build a stadium with a capacity of at least 76,500 - what would be the biggest football stadium in England after the national Wembley stadium.
Liverpool are believed to have a season ticket waiting list with 56,000 names on it. The 60,000 seater stadium was expected to take on an extra 14,000 season ticket holders (on top of the current 24,000).
It is apparent that even with a 60,000 seater stadium some of the present ticketing problems would still remain.
Liverpool will need to act quickly in order to ensure that European development money is used in the project.

I THINK THAT IT MAKES COMMON SENSE TO BUILD AS BIG A STADIUM AS POSSIBLE AT THE FIRST STAGES OF CONSTRUCTION,IT SAVES UNNESSARY COSTS AND VALUABLE TIME TO BUILD NOW AND HAVE TO ALTER OR EXPAND THE STADIUM AGAIN.THE NEW OWNERS HAVE IT SPOT ON AND I FULLY AGREE THAT WE SHOULD BE BOLD AND INOVATIVE AND MAKE LIVERPOOL FC A FORCE TO BE REKONED WITH.WE NEED THE EXTRA REVENUE THAT A BIGGER STADIUM WILL GENERATE.

This is brill news. I always thought 60k stadia was too small. If we r gona build from scratch we should do it properly. It will work out alot more expensive to add more seating later. As well as the hassel it will affect the overall design. I think its important tho that we retain one big ‘kop’ stand behind a goal and also maybe make it standing? I read yesterday that the law into all seating requirements may be reveiwed as 90% of fans prefer to stand. An all standing 20,000 capacity kop stand!? Imagine that…

The New owners are moving in the right direction if its true that they are planning for a Bigger stadium, Its a big blunder from the previous management to go for a 60k stadium without any room for future expensions.Its a ridiculars decision from the Ex-boss.60k will not be enough after 10-20 yrs. Then what? Another Stadium? Lets go for a Bigger stadium once or at least one that has a option for expension to 80k. Just look at our rivals , Please.

Its great news for the cluband kopites, that Mr Hicks and Mr Gillette want to make the new stadium bigger than the original 60,000 cappacity. If the mancs can have 1 76,000 ground then I see no reason why we cant equal that or better it. the problem is with the current Anfield is that it is so hard to get tickets having such a small capacity and incresing it to 70 or 80 thousand would change this. we need to compete with the mancs. barcelona, real madrid and the milan’s in term of the revenue they are generating from having massive stadiums.

It’s great news. Barce, Real, Milan ETC.. all have massive stadiums. Why would we build only a 60,000 when we could fill 76,000 for many games throughout the season. Maybe not all sellouts but many will be.
Rick Parry would have built a 60,000 seater with no permission to ever extend it and we’d be in the same situation in 20 years as we are now having to move. That man really hasn’t got any clue. Good job the new ownner aren’t so incompetent.

I think that a 76000 seater is the “brain” when the big guns showdown we would have a capacity crowd and imagine at least 25000 lfc supporters booing and whistling when rivals have countered .

how many times have i heard ‘I cant get tickets for the match’, an i dont think 60,000 will change this problem much. I honestly do think we would still get sell outs with a 80,000 stadium. but to be honest i think alot of reds will be happy with anything above 70,000. What a relief for fans like me who can only get to the odd game because of the lack of tickets for games. The new owners have done their homework and are obviously wanting to capitalise on the potential the fan base has to offer. With the right pricing we are sure to fill a new stadium seating 80 plus. Mr Hicks and Gillett please make our dreams come true.

+if you do get 80,000 it will be impossible to expand it further…………at Old Trafford we can get rid of the south stand and put a replica of the north stand there (stands going over the train track) …..+put on 2 extra corner extentions……..the whole stadium will then seat 110,000.
and we keep the same stadium!!! which is great.

I’m sick listening to all this new stadium TALK. When are the new owners going to put everyone out of their misery and let us know the actual size of this thing. With this extra 1 year delay they have introduced i hope its worth the wait.
