Be the first Have your say

Steven Gerrard was thoroughly impressed when he met George Gillett and Tom Hicks prior to the pair’s takeover of Liverpool last week.

Both him and Jamie Carragher spent a bit of time with the new owners while in Manchester training with England.

Gerrard said of the meeting:

“After 15 minutes, we had been blown away by the plans they have for the club.”

“They said they are going to turn Liverpool into the biggest club in the world.”

“They spoke to us about the new stadium and about some of their plans to invest in the team, but what impressed me most was the assurance that they have come to win things.

“I think people have been a bit disrespectful to Liverpool over the last few years, but I can tell you that is going to change now that the takeover has been completed.”

“I believe that we are still the best club in the land and, with a bit of help from our new owners, there will come a time again when everyone outside Liverpool understands that as well.”
