Rafa backtracks and lets Carson go

Scott CarsonWeeks ago Rafa Benitez was hopeful that Scott Carson would remain at Anfield as understudy to Jose Reina, now that Jerzy Dudek has left the club.

However, it seems player power has hit out at even the ruthless Rafa Benitez, and the player looks set to move to our first opponents this season, Aston Villa, on a season long loan.

Benitez has half his wish in that the player does remain on Liverpool’s books - Carson appears to have a promising international future ahead of him, and Benitez is acutely aware that the reds now have inexperienced cover for Reina. Rafa has told Scott Carson that he sees his long term future at Anfield but the player has more immediate worries such as trying to gain a place in the Euro 2008 England squad.

According to BBC Sport the move to Villa depends on whether Liverpool can get Charles Itandje from Lens to replace him. Carson would not be able to play against Liverpool on Saturday. The reds have also signed young Bulgarian keeper Nikolay Mihaylov this summer.

i agreed that he should leave.otherwise he may sit sleeping on
the bench many hours. the shameful thing however is RAFA’s loss of quality players like quaresma, alves, malouda and tevez to one of its arch rivals. if tevez is combined with rooney, i don’t think that all the fullbacks liverpool has now can stop them. Rafa will pay a high price for the loss.

umm. yes, i agree. if Rooney, Tevez, & ronaldo play together, there would be a big threat. i am fully aware that our new signings are very fantastic but we just cannot beat United over all, which looks more aggressive and stronger! if no more quality wingers coming in, i think the second/third place in the premiership is acceptable to me.

The BBC website says: ‘Liverpool goalkeeper Scott Carson looks set to join Aston Villa on loan for the new season after the Reds signed Charles Itandje from Lens.’

it seems that RAFA moves quickly for second best players. what about big names like quaresma, daniel alves, tevez, malouda, etc. who are deemed world-class? he has been quite slow, slow, and slow. actually he should be nicknamed MR Slow!.

Hi,everybody.I’m from Bulgaria and i’d like to say a few words about Liverpool.Firstly,I agree that Carson should leave. He has to play regularly in order to become a national goalkeeper.Unfortunately he can’t do that at Anfield due to the great competition there. As a bulgarian guy i’m extremely happy that my compatriot Mihaylov will be playing in Liverpool. That’s the place for him and he can show his potential completely.Good luck Liverpool!!!

listern up here, we may all want the best players in the world at liverpool but money talks. daniel alves wants to play for chelsea and malouda play for them already so these players are out of reach let it go. tevez now plays for man utd so that another one out reach but we have mascheranos who is one of the best def mid out there and i glad we have him.now for quaresma i ante heard anything from him wanting a liverpool move so wishful think and gonna work, rafa is on buliding a time with options and love for the club. i dont want them to be a chelsea full of egos and big heads and man utd will soon follow to many egos ante good it spoils team work. we are building a team for the future so we need to let them get on what they do best play football and grow as a team.

    Peace

i think it was a good decision for carson to leave. he’ll gain valuable first team football and hopefully come back and give rafa a headache over the goalkeeper selection.
