Reds face short trip to face the French

Toulouse FCLiverpool will face Toulouse in the third Qualifying Round of the Champions League.

The reds who are the top seeds in the 3rd Qualifying round have been handed a relatively difficult tie - facing a side who have also automatically qualified for the 3rd round as opposed to one of the sides advancing from the 2nd round.

Nonetheless, despite the increased level of the opposition, the reds will take some heart from the fact that travelling arrangements will be much easier as the first leg in France is four days before a clash against Chelsea.

Liverpool will be hoping to get the best of the French side and advance to the group stages of the competition in which they have reached 2 finals in the last 3 attempts.

Bryce Morrison, the reds club secretary told Sky Sports News:

“I think the draw could have been a lot worse for us, although it’s not easy in this qualifying round.

“The competition seems to be getting harder each year, but we’re happy with the draw.

“The French league is strong and their supporters will be really excited about the progress their team has made.”

The full draw is:

FH Hafnarfjordur or BATE Borisov v Zaglebie Lubin or Steaua Bucharest
Tampere United or Levski Sofia v Astana or Rosenborg
Spartak Moscow v CELTIC
Werder Bremen v NK Domzale or Dinamo Zagreb
FK Ventspils or FC Salzburg v Pyunik or Shakhtar Donetsk
Ajax v MSK Zilina or SK Slavia Prague
Valencia v Debreceni or IF Elfsborg
Genk or FK Sarajevo v Dynamo Kiev
Fenerbahce v Anderlecht
RANGERS or FK Zeta v FK Crvena Zvezda or Levadia Tallinn
Toulouse v LIVERPOOL
Benfica v FC Copenhagen or Beitar Jerusalem
Lazio v Dinamo Bucharest
Sparta Prague v ARSENAL
FC Zurich v Sheriff or Besiktas
Sevilla v AEK Athens

The first leg in Toulouse will be on the 15th August with the Anfield return on the 29th August 2007.

Congratulations to Cy, on the forum, who had Toulouse in the ’sweep’ and takes home two t-shirts from our final in Greece earlier this year.

  1. while the liverpool side may be a little bit trembling to face one of the most-hard-to-play-team, but i think the toulouse players are also feeling unlucky to meet liverpool. toulouse is as a matter of fact a good team but liverpool looks better overall. i watched the french team play against other teams in france a number of times, i would think if liverpool has better wingers like alves or quaresma to create more opportunities, they will win the games for sure.
