Agger ready to take his chance

Agger ready to grab his chance with both hands.
by Anfield Online | Tuesday 7th October 2008

Be the first Have your say

Martin Skrtel’s injury has paved the way for Daniel Agger to resume his promising Liverpool career that has suffered recently with injuries himself, and a spell on the bench so far this season.

Agger rooms with Skrtel and is naturally disappointed with the Slovakian’s injury.

“Of course I hope to get some playing time, but this was not exactly the way I wished to get it. I know Martin very well because I share a room with him when we travel.”

Agger is determined to take any chance that comes his way and establish himself as the first choice Liverpool centre-back.  Daniel also reminded people that even players like Jamie Carragher are not guaranteed a place in the Liverpool team.

“I hope to get my chance and then I will prove that it’s my place. On the other hand, it might as well be Jamie Carragher’s place because I don’t know why people only say it is me or Skrtel who are fighting each other for a place in the team.”

“I have had to be patient this season and wait for my chance, I know how things are.”

“The team have been playing really well and the results have been great, so I couldn’t really expect the manager to make too many changes.

“The only thing for me to do was get my head down and concentrate on getting as fit as possible, so that if an opportunity came along, I was ready to take it.”

“When you have been out injured for 10 months, you know you are going to have to work really hard to get back into shape. That’s why I have been putting extra sessions in at Melwood this season.

“I have been out there on the training pitch when the other lads have finished, because you never know when the call might come.

“It has been worth the extra effort, too, because I feel really fit and strong and ready to step in.

“There have been a few stories about me recently, but I couldn’t be happier. I’m really glad to be a Liverpool player, and all I want is to play a part in a great start.”

Agger is almost certain to get his chance in the reds European campaign but will be hoping to edge out Sami Hyypia in the upcoming Premiership fixtures.  Rafa’s team selection against Wigan will be of great interest.
