Tranmere LiverpoolDaniel Agger returned to the Liverpool side, and new boys Phillip Degen and Diego Cavalieri also got second half appearances under their belt, as the reds started the new season with a victory over Tranmere.

Spanish youngster Daniel ‘The Kid’ Pachecho, only 17, played up front and showed some glimpses of why he could be a real Anfield gem in future years.

Liverpool dominated the game for the entire 90 minutes and the 1-0 scoreline flattered Tranmere.  Pacheco and Pennant had great chances before Lucas set up Benayoun to fire home.  Lucas will shortly be heading off to the Olympic Games but he looked lively in the red shirt today.

Later on in the game Steven Gerrard made an appearance and with Voronin the pair combined a number of times, unfortunately without any end result.

A victory under their belts and the Liverpool players will now head off to their Swiss training camp.

silva keane and one more if not we can not be even close to even thinkn about a tittle shot,,, it hurts to say this but it is true…. the owners are making us sell and thats is good,,,, they have played this takeover very cleverly on their part,,

i could ring their necks the pair of them here we are about to go into anotger season and yet havent signed anyone of of any great quality sa,e old liverpool in the markets ..

it is sad that the club is in this state… and i wish fans where more upset about the whole afair….its etheir now or never that we need to challenge so give up this it will be all right talk and replace it with we havent got a chance for even 4th spot unless we add some proven talent… im sorry but we all know that is the case………….

get the fat pricks out of the club and then with better support for the boss and better marketing of the pitch and more acumen around the club then,,,,,,,,,,, only then will liverpool and challenge the top 3 , ………

Of course it is frustrating to see only these mediocre players like Degen arrive, who played really not good in Germany, if he was playing at all, due to injuries. But we have plenty of young talent at the club, and these players will develop as well as the whole team will become better, playing together another year. Maybe one or two players are needed in addition. But Liverpool will be stronger than last year, only because the players will have an even better understanding on the pitch. We are not a very big spending club, and maybe never will be. As Rafa said, it is not about just buying players, it is about buying the right players. But having already such a strong team, which will improve the next year, we have no reason to be too pessimistic about challenging for title-glory this term, even with only the current squad! Let’s trust the lads and the staff, they will once again improve this year. And I clearly can see the other teams weakening because of changes in central positions. So, the time is right for us, and time is now!
