Furious Rafa denies Italian link

by Anfield Online | Tuesday 9th June 2009

Yesterday’s report from the Gazetta Della Sport in Italy concerning Ezequiel Lavezzi has been quashed by Rafa Benitez, who insists the player is not a target of Liverpool FC.

The Italian newspaper reported on an interview with the player’s agent who insisted the club had made an offer directly to the Napoli club, but that the club had not responded.

But Benitez has said the 24 year old striker is not a player he is targeting.

“We never contacted Lavezzi and we have no intention of doing so.

“We want to put a stop to these rumours.”

Since the media have linked Liverpool with the player a raft of clubs, including both Manchester United and Man City, are believed to have been tracking the player.

However it now appears to be the classic agent trick of trying to improve his players contract with the Naples side.
