Gerrard out for 3 weeks

by Anfield Online | Thursday 5th February 2009 | @jd77

Liverpool FC have confirmed that a scan has revealed that Steven Gerrard has suffered a torn left hamstring and will be out of action for at least 3 weeks.

The reds take on Portsmouth on Saturday away before a two week international break.

Liverpool then have a busy 3 week period with 6 games, starting with Man City at home and ending with United away – with two Champions League clashes against Real Madrid in between.

Looks like the international break has come at just the right time for the reds.

Well torres was out for a long time and we done good. But this could be different we will have to see where the pieces fall. Obviously all players have to step up their game here. It might be just what we need for the club to show real character. #1 clubs can battle through any so called crisis. Come on you reds.

glen is spot on. Others such as Benayoun, Alonso and Babel will now have a chance to shine over the next 3 weeks. See if any of them can link up with Torres as well as Gerrard does. It will be a test of character because if we want to win the title we have to show weve got strength in depth and prove we dont rely on Gerrard to be our inspiration all the time. It is a big blow but i believe we have the players capable of deputising. Benayoun needs to show the qualities he did at West Ham, then we’ll be ok. Come on the mighty reds.

i think that we will struggle without gerrard but as long as torres stays fit we should be fine

i think benayoun should be given a chance to play the second striker role on saturday. i thought he played well against everton last night and when he came on against chelsea he was lively and was always looking for the ball of all our fringe players he probably deserves a start on saturday and floating in behind torres just might suit him and the team now that Gerrard is out of action for a while
