Reds defence bolstered by duo

Daniel AggerRafa Benitez faces a selection headache ahead of Aston Villa’s trip to Anfield at the weekend with the news that both Daniel Agger and Alvaro Arbeloa could be ready for selection.

Arbeloa was replaced by Sami Hyypia just ahead of the weekend’s clash with Man United after suffering a recurrence of a recent injury.

Agger meanwhile has been suffering with a back problem in what has been a disappointing season for him in terms of injury. Speaking to the official site, Benitez said:

“Daniel is back in training.

“Hopefully he will be available for the weekend but it depends on the doctor and whether he thinks it’s a risk or not.

“Having Agger available again will be a big boost. When we play at home especially he is a player who can play good passes and is a threat in front of goal.

“We have missed him but hopefully he will now be available for the rest of the season.”

Sami Hyypia had an excellent game for the reds but with all four reds centre-backs available again, and with Aurelio and Insua competing for left back, and even Dossena having a shout for left midfield, the reds have a wide array of options available at the back.

Xabi Alonso however may miss out, and has yet to return to full training.

Benayoun and Degen make up the rest of the injured Anfield trio.
