Liverpool leave big names at home for European decider

Steven Gerrard, Lucas Leiva and Daniel Agger have not travelled with the Liverpool squad for the final crunch group game away at Udinese.

Europa League

The game at Udinese will be Liverpool's 32nd in the Europa League.

Brendan Rodgers has taken Luis Suarez along as the Uruguayan is ruled out of the weekend's clash at West Ham due to suspension for collecting 5 yellow cards this season.

The squad that has travelled is:

Jones, Johnson, Enrique, Sahin, Suarez, Cole, Assaidi, Henderson, Coates, Downing, Carragher, Allen, Reina, Suso, Sterling, Shelvey, Coady, Skrtel, Wisdom.

Liverpool go in to the game level on points with Swiss side Young Boys who are at home to Anzhi.

Anzhi are guaranteed qualification through to the next round.  If Liverpool win away in Italy they go through.  If they draw, they will need Anzhi to get at least a point against the Swiss club.

  1. Haha..this post cracked me up..our full squad travelled and you say we left the big names home..gerrard is ill, lucas just returned from a long term injury..agger has a long injury record and needs to be managed properly..that’s the only reason those 3 didn’t travel

    • Still interesting that Brendan elected to rest Lucas and Agger for this particular game, no?

Wasn’t worried enough about Lucas in his first game back to let him play for 88 minutes.

The Europa League isn’t a priority for him – don’t know why he just won’t admit it. The owners have already admitted they don’t care about the club winning trophies – just finishing 4th.
