Liverpool’s Joao Teixeira makes ‘dream move’ to Porto

Liverpool's 23 year old Joao Carlos Teixeira has confirmed that he will be leaving the club to return to his native Portugal - and play for Porto.

The player's contract was due to end at Anfield at the end of this month - and although the reds had offered the player a new deal - he felt the move would see him enjoy more first team football.

The Liverpool Echo reports the player as saying:

“I am from the north and to wear blue and white has always been a dream for me.

“Now I can work at my club in my region and my country.

“I had other offers but do not want anything other than to wear blue and white.”

Porto, another club under kit supplier New Balance, are believed to have offered the player a substantial 5 year deal for the player.

The reds paid £850,000 for the player 4 and a half  years ago- he had been impressive when facing Liverpool in the NextGen series - a competition for youth sides.

He spent time on loan at both Brentford and Brighton and made his LFC debut, off the bench, in February 2014 in the 3-2 win over Fulham.

He had not featured for Liverpool last season until Jurgen Klopp arrived - named on the bench in the new manager's first game.  He was involved in a total of 17 of Klopp's games in charge - playing a part in seven of them.

We wish Joao all the best for his future career.

UPDATE: He has now officially completed his move to Porto
