A few points, quit ragging on these guys because they are Irish, I thought we were trying to keep racism out of football.

They are bang on the money here, Liverpool were awful that night.

They have also rubbished Man United when there was cause to, go do some research and you’ll see for yourself.

They are 10 million times better than the yes men of sky sports or the brainless zombies on bbc.

Idiot. He hates everything at some stage and don’t even start on how he talks about United. He slated them continually in ’99 until they won the bloody treble. He has slated Chelsea when they were crushing all before them in the premier league and he at last (just last week) admitted he was wrong about Ronaldo saying he was the real deal. Here you go, taken from wikipedia.

Dunphy makes regular visceral attacks on players and managers he watches, for instance:

on 8 March 2006 when speaking on RTÉ television in the aftermath of Liverpool’s exit from the Champions League at the hands of SL Benfica. In a characteristically harsh assessment of the Liverpool team, Dunphy said of their Spanish winger Luis García:

“They (Liverpool) should put Garcia where he belongs – in the dustbin.”
In the same broadcast, when asked on his views of Chelsea’s elimination from the same competition the previous night at the hands of FC Barcelona, Dunphy said of the Chelsea manager José Mourinho:

“We’ll all see through Mourinho. We’ll find out he’s just a Bengal lancer ["Chancer" - Dublin slang word]!”
he also said:

“here we have Cisse, right wing, attempts to put in a cross, BANG…hits the full back, again BANG hits the full back, BANG…off the full back again, and once more, BANG…smacks the full back again…. Millions of euro and he can’t clear the first man, I mean…what’s he trying to do to the full back here, Kill him??”
He wasn’t finished there though. When asked what he thought of Harry Kewell (who had also played for Liverpool that night) he was blunt:

“Fat and a clown. A fat clown for all to see.”
During the coverage of Euro 2004, Dunphy told RTÉ viewers

“”You need poverty and dictatorship to produce great footballers.”
He also informed fellow pundit John Giles:

“Machiavelli was an Italian… Wasn’t he, John? Who did he play for?”
After Ireland lost a two goal lead against Holland in 1983 Dunphy wrote about Liam Brady:

“” He is often looked on as a great player. He is nothing of the kind. His performance on Wednesday was a disgrace, a monument to conceit adorned with vanity and self-indulgence, rendered all the more objectional by the swagger of his gait. He was deemed by many observers to have had a splendid game.”"

In 2007 after AC Milan verses Manchester United he called Rio Ferdinand a ‘tramp’.

He has also in the past said Michele Platini is crap.

Im fed up watching ITV and SKY with there perennial fence-sitting ‘experts’ spouting inane drivel and shamelessly fawning over every player in the Premiership. Pundits like Jamie Redknapp are facillitated in boring and uninsightful discussions by the easy and rhetorical questioning of Richard Keyes, these people contribute to the hype machine constantly inflating English football to its current extreme false sense of self-importance. People like Dunphy and Giles are much more objective and arent shackled by corporate fatcats telling them what to say. Football analysis is supposed to be a debate not endless boring chat riddled with clichés

That game was terrible and all liverpool were doing were throwing themselves in front of it and kicking the ball away..and gerrard did do nothing, Jamie carragher is liverpool’s best player, and gerrard is unbelievably ovverated. All you people who slated them, watch the spineless pundits on bbc and keep trying to convince yourself liverpool are one of the best teams in europe.. Dirk kuyt is not good enough to play in the premiership..craig bellamy is a scumbag who makes the effort when it suits him, Gerrard has some great moments but does’nt contribute much to general play. Crouch, Finnan, and Carragher are the only liverpool players coming out of this season with any credibility in my opinion. These blokes were just being honest.

Dunphy has always been sensationalist. How else do you explain a nobody in the football world getting a pundit job. Dunphy is a Roy Keane fan, not a United fan. He slates Ronaldo more than anyone Dave Needham so get your facts right. I agree with Con, these guys say what we all discuss in the pub or wherever we may be, it’s refreshing rather than the likes of Redknapp, Hoddle and the rest uttering their damp squib analysis, afraid to offend. I’m a Pool fan but Gerrard is not a leader, a good player in fits and starts but a captain is a label not necessarily a leader. Carra is the one true leader on that pitch, he should be captain. Gerrard being one of the greatest players in the world a myth? I agree, he never states Gerrard is a nobody by the way. (Oh yes he does – Ed) Fully agree about Pennant, the sooner he goes the better. We bought him to get crosses in and score some goals. He’s got one goal and cannot cross his legs.

I am from Dublin and I watch the match’s on SKY or the Beeb but turn over to RTE to listen to the analysis. I am an ardant LFC fan and most of you are caught up in the emotion. The UK media pundits are actually the ones who talk dribble and say what you want to hear. Who ever is on the RTE panel give football analysis and have no bias for any team. They slated the mancs for their crap against Lille for example.
In the Barca match though I found myself to pissed with them as they were really scathing about liverpools efforts as they gave no real credit for the firs 60 minutes when we destroyed Barca. So why were they so scathing? Well take your emotion out of it and your red glasses off and analyse it properly.
1. We should have hammered then 3 or 4 but we DIDN’T and ended up hanging on booting the ball away for the last 20 minutes
2. We did not put 2 passes together in the last 20 minutes
3. Barca were rubbish all game but we made them look better than they actually were.
We all want LFC to be great again but lets face it, we all know we cant put 3-4 passes together or keep the ball well enough and that is really what the RTE guys were on about even though it was a bit OTT.
Now to Stevie G.
The point RTE make all the time is right. He will do inspirational things like scoring a wonder goal(cup final), make a great run, put a great pass or tackle in, but again lets face it, he does not control or dictate a game like a beckenbaur, xavi, or even a fabrigas. HJe is by far our best player but in the Barca game at what stage the Stevie G control or dictate the game apart from the odd exception of a quick long pass, or good run all of which added to about 1 minute, the game is 90 minutes long. And that is what RTE were saying although in Dunphy’s scatching mood he was too flippent about Stevie.
Lets face it, we did brilliant to get through and those Anfield nights are amazing but do we play good football, I don’t think so. Can’t keep the ball or create clear chances for the majority of our games, look at the dribble against the 3rd team in Liverpool(the blue noses)a few weeks ago or villa on Sunday zzzzzz time. . We are still 2 or 3 great players away from really playing great football and hopefully Rafa will spend the pot of gold well in the Summer

are we all so blind that we think we outclassed them? gerrard is cack compared to ronnie. carra is our only half-decent player. these guys are ok, they’re not old boys like hansen or lawro who always say “an off day” whenever we fail to beat one of the big teams. they call it how they see it, anyone’s right surely.

Its very entertaining stuff whether you agree with whats said or not puts the banal stuff on bbc and utv to shame.Most Irish people watch the matches on bbc (unless its an irish national team match) and then watch rte for the analysis.Sure dunphy plus giles hate cristano ronaldo too its not just liverpool they give out about.They are most entertaining when discussing the english soccer team they told it like it was unlike the brownnoses in the bbc and utv.Also during the last world cup g souness was on the panel with them he was very forthright too funny stuff.
Dunphy is a guy people love to hate its how he makes his money.In the 2002 world cup he wore cameroon colours red tie and green shirt and hoped ireland would lose.It was after the siapan thing and he was writing keanes book.

They have said that they have been useless for several months now, that Rooney is being wasted and Rolnaldo is highly overated that he is a cheat and plays for about 5 minutes in games if at all.

Let all the skysports/bbc/itv lovers go back to listening to that biased crap, they are the reason the England team is always hyped up and always come home with their tails between their legs after failing to live up to the media hype.

You guys should hear what they say about the Irish team – ALWAYS HITTING THE NAIL ON THE HEAD THERE TOO!

Why have these horrible, Manc, jealous, bias tits been given a job which remotely involves talking about football! To say that gerrard is a nothing player is beyond a joke. To say that Benitez was negative is ridiculous, and it was clear to see that over the two legs we took the game to Barcelona, a side of the fifteen minute spell they had in the second half of the home leg. How can people of their supposed stature be so bias, and give such ill balanced opinions on national T.V, based on their clear jealousy and hatred for our prestigious club. Overall their comments were absolutely despicable and inaccurate, and it would be an absolute disgrace if they were to remain on television. STRANDY –BEDES BOYS REDS!

i’m a red and we played like tossers in the second half against barca. We should’ve stuffed barca but instead we let them come at us and lost the match.

This criticism from Dunphy / Giles / Brady isn’t just levelled at Liverpool. When teams play badly, they say it out. They criticise Manure, Chelski and everyone else when they play badly. They don’t spout truism and nonsense a la richard keys and jamie redknapp. They speak the truth.

I don’t fully agree with them but their core argument, that liverpool played really badly in the second half of that game (with the exception of Agger, Finnan, and Carragher) is completely merited. Our midfield (so-called world class) was a disgrace – couldn’t string a decent pass together which would have alleviated a lot of pressure from us.

As for the ‘drunken irish’ comments made by some reds supporters above – your racism is the only thing that truly demeans Liverpool Football Club……not Giles and Dunphy.

this has nothing to do with Man U. And its not just a Liverpool criticism thing, they are always going off on a particular path that has more to do with football being an art form always than the reality. They are not therefore objective when it comes to real games.
