Young Boys SC 3-5 Liverpool

It was a goal-fest in Switzerland as Liverpool ran out 5-3 winners after coming back from 3-2 behind, with a good showing from several of Liverpool's youth players.

The reds left 8 first team regulars at home for the trip.

The reds were handed a great start in the 4th minute when Ojala headed in to his own net, to put the reds in the lead. Towards the end of the half and Young Boys equalised after an error by Enrique - but minutes later and the reds put themselves back ahead before half time.

It was Andre Wisdom who headed home from Nuri Sahin's corner.

Ojala gained revenge for his earlier error when early in the second half he headed an equaliser - Coates and Carragher looking out of sorts at the back - and then Young Boys took the lead when Zarate dinked the ball over Brad Jones - after Carragher had been easily skinned.

But the reds weren't prepared to give up this tie, and Sebastian Coates got amongst the goals with a header perfectly placed in to the corner.

3-3 but the reds left it to the end of the game to finish the Swiss side off.

Jonjo Shelvey came on towards the end of the game and scored twice - first with a right footed shot and then a left footer after some fine Liverpool build up play.

Liverpool will be well pleased to open their group with an away win - especially with the determination of the reds very own young boys.
