Liverpool 1-3 Swansea

Liverpool were outplayed, outclassed and outscored to suffer their 4th defeat at Anfield this season, as they were unceremoniously dumped out of the competition they won back in February.

It was an insipid performance from Liverpool - Joe Cole was hauled off at half time after a rare start - and Brendan Rodgers was forced to bring on Suarez and Gerrard but to little effect.

Suarez did grab a goal to make it 1-2 but Swansea extended their lead in injury time.

Michael Laudrup's men were comprehensively outplayed, and Joe Allen - facing his old club, also endured a torrid first half which saw Swansea dominate.

Leon Britton, Nathan Dyer and Michu played like giants, while the expensive Anfield flops such as Downing and Cole fluffed.

It was Flores who rose for the header to give the Swans a fully deserved first half lead.

And so Gerrard and Suarez were sent on for the hapless Cole and the youngster Yesil.

Gerrard struck the post and the ball came out to Downing who must score - but managed a remarkable miss from six yards out.

Brad Jones and Jamie Carragher at the other end were saving Liverpool from utter humiliation, but Swansea doubled their lead when Michu, Hernandez and Dyer combined. The latter scoring the second.

Like at Goodison Park, a Gerrard free kick found Suarez's head and he grabbed one back for the reds.

But in the dying minutes, Michu found De Guzman to seal the 3-1 victory for the Welsh side.

The reds must pick them up for the weekend's visit by Newcastle - November isn't looking good on paper - with league games against Chelsea, Spurs and Swansea away.
