Liverpool to train in Spain – Klopp’s aim to avoid post Champions League pain

Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool squad will remain in Seville following tomorrow night's 5th Champions League group game.

A win for either side will secure progress to the last 16 of the competition.

As well as that significant prize - the reds are also aware of their upcoming weekend clash against Chelsea at Anfield.

Rather than fly back immediately after the game for a late morning start at Melwood, the club will remain in the Spanish city to train on Wednesday morning - before flying back to Liverpool in the afternoon.

Liverpool's two previous away games in the Champions League have not been followed by good domestic results - hence the consideration of a change in strategy.

The reds draw 1-1 away at Newcastle and lost away at Spurs following the Spartak Moscow and Maribor away games.

Klopp told Liverpool FC reporters:

'We thought a lot about it. How we do it travel home, no way is the perfect way after the game - if you fly home immediately then in the middle of the night you come home and you cannot really sleep then have to go to training the next day.

'We decided this time we would stay there because of the long flight. We will train there and that’s why we’ve brought a bigger squad with us, so we can have a proper session in the morning.

'Then the boys can go home and immediately to their families. Then we start again on Thursday preparing for the Chelsea game.'

The following squad has travelled with LFC (Joel Matip is not involved and is hoping to be ready for the Chelsea game):

Karius, Wijnaldum, Lovren, Milner, Firmino, Coutinho, Salah, Gomez, Henderson, Sturridge, Grujic, Klavan, Moreno, Mane, Lallana, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Mignolet, Can, Robertson, Ings, Solanke, Ward, Alexander-Arnold.
