Huddersfield 0-1 Liverpool: Salah on target as reds make return to winning ways

Mo Salah, one of the few who survived the international break, scored the only goal of the game to deliver all three points for the reds.

Lallana, Sturridge and Shaqiri all started for the reds with the likes of Mane and Keita absent, and Firmino on the bench.

But the reds were enterprising in the first half and when Mo Salah met Shaqiri's through ball in the middle of the half, his angled drive gave Liverpool a deserved lead.

The reds survived a handball penalty shout when the ball cannoned off Milner's thigh on to his arm.

Over the course of the 90 minutes however Jurgen Klopp was right in his post-match analysis 'I am winning average games for the first time in my life.'

Huddersfield worked tirelessly in the second half and had opportunities to equalise as the reds international exploits seemed to catch up with them.

For Salah, it was his 50th goal in English football and hopefully the start of a return to his form from 2017/18.

At half time Henderson was replaced by Wijnaldum, and a short while later Fabinho came on to make his league debut for the reds - 9 games in to the season.

Speaking after the game, Klopp said:

"It is the first period in my life that we can win average matches. I prefer the spectacular way, but I would take that today completely.

"When you come back from the international break there are many things no-one asks about, like the time difference.

"That is why I was a bit more animated on the touchline today because if you are tired, you at least need to be afraid of your manager."

Liverpool can now look forward to two games at Anfield - a Champions League midweek clash v Red Star Belgrade before Cardiff City arrive for a Saturday Premier League game.
