Augsburg 0-0 Liverpool: Tie remains in the balance after 1st leg draw

Liverpool will not have the luxury of resting players ahead of the League Cup final after playing out a goalless draw in Bavaria.

Klopp made his return to Germany but the reds did not get the first leg advantage they were hoping for.

Both sides did have chances to grab goals in this game - both goalkeepers were forced into good saves in the game - but with no away goal the reds will have to be at their best at Anfield to continue in the tournament.

For the first time in his 31 games in charge the Liverpool boss was able to name an unchanged team.  Again electing to start the threesome of Firmino, Coutinho and Sturridge as the reds attack.

James Milner provided two of the reds best chances - pacy crosses from the right wing that were too hot to handle for both Sturridge and his later replacement Divock Origi.

Christian Benteke was left on the bench - leaving fans in no doubt were the Belgian is in Klopp's pecking order.

Mignolet made a good stop at close range in first half injury time in what was possibly Augsburg's best chance of the game.

The German club are struggling in the Bundesliga but are determined to enjoy their first season in European football.

Liverpool will be hoping next Thursday's decider proves that little too much for them.
