Christian Benteke arrives at LFC saying ‘I want to be the best’

Christian Benteke finally completed his transfer to Liverpool after a summer long pursuit.

The sale of Raheem Sterling finally brought in the money and Liverpool immediately activated the £32.5M transfer clause in Benteke's Villa contract.

Benteke had split opinion amongst fans as to whether he is the solution for Liverpool - but his goal record in English football has been impressive.

Speaking to LFC following his move his comments were of the standard 'new player' variety:

I think it was the right club for me because I had a good chat with the manager and I wanted to be part of his project.

I know Liverpool is a big story. They've won [many] league titles and the Champions League five times and of course the UEFA Cup and a lot of trophies. I know it's a big club.

I came here to win trophies. I came here to reach some great goals with the team.

I'm very happy to be part of the Liverpool family now and I will do everything to make them happy and work hard for them and my teammates.

He was asked if he could develop further at Anfield:

Yeah of course. I want to be the best and I want to reach the best of myself.

It's about winning trophies. It's about doing something in my career I can maybe explain to my son or my kids what I did.

Benteke has scored 49 goals in 101 appearances for Villa, and the 24 year old is understood to have signed a 5 year deal at Anfield.

A lot rests on his shoulders. Can he deliver?
