Liverpool’s Voronin set for transfer?

Andriy Voronin looks set to complete a transfer to his loan club, Hertha Berlin, but only on condition that the club qualify for the Champions League.

The Ukraine international has been on loan with the German club since last summer and is currently in a rich vein of form, having scored eight goals in the past 7 games.

Rafa Benitez signed the player on a free transfer two seasons ago but he failed to hold down a first team place at Anfield, his last Liverpool goal coming to win the pre-season friendly against Lazio last summer.  According to Hertha Berlin, a fee has been agreed for around £3.5 million.

The President of the Bundesliga side, Werner Gegenbauer, said:

“We cannot go through with a transfer unless we have extra funds from the Champions League, so it depends on whether or not we qualify.

“We can give and receive no promise, but we have to wait and see what happens at the end of the season.”

Hertha are currently top of the Bundesliga with a one point lead.  In Germany the top three sides qualify for the Champions League.

Voronin is set to play against England on Wednesday.
