Liverpool have offered Gerrard new contract, says Brendan Rodgers

16 years on from his LFC debut, and Brendan Rodgers insists that the club want Steven Gerrard to make it 17.

Ahead of tomorrow's Premier League fixture the LFC manager denied talk of a rift between the two - '150% No' he said.

Lucas Leiva was preferred to the club captain on Saturday's game which was the reds only win of November.

Steven Gerrard's contract expires in the summer, and he can sign a pre-contract with another club from next month.  Many believe he has his sights set on a move abroad but Brendan says that 'money is no issue' in hoping to keep him at the club.

"'He has been offered a contract here and that is where it is at.

"It is a big move not just in his life but in terms of committing where his next contract is going to be.

"There are probably many things Steven would have to think about in a decision like this but it certainly won't be money. I have spoken to him often enough and at length and that won't be the case."

"No matter how good a player has been, once they come towards those final years then as manager you are having to think how you can get the best out of the player.

"Everyone knows his history at this club. What a player he has been, and still is. I see his talent every day and just need to manage that and think how it can be most effective.

"I love working with Steven Gerrard. I've enjoyed every single minute. I hope that continues."

In October Steven Gerrard said that if Liverpool offered a contract he would sign:

"We will have to wait and see if that's at Liverpool or somewhere else. That's Liverpool's decision."

Liverpool travel to 14th placed Leicester City for tomorrow night's Premier League clash.
