Liverpool deny manager approach for Carlo Ancelotti

Liverpool have denied the overnight news linking them with a move for Carlo Ancelotti.

The former Real Madrid boss was rumoured to have been approached according to sources in Italy, but this morning a stream of journalists have been briefed by the club to quash the rumours.

Odds on Ancelotti replacing under-fire manager Brendan Rodgers were slashed this morning.

The Guardian reports a source at Liverpool highlighting that 'such a move would be out of character with the way the Americans have operated to date'

Liverpool face League Two side Carlisle later today at Anfield and yesterday Gary McAllister was given the task of delivering the pre-match press conference.
