Daniel Sturridge, reaches milestone, stresses Liverpool desire to win – always

Daniel Sturridge celebrated his first goalscoring double off the bench for Liverpool in last night's 5-0 win for the reds in the League Cup 2nd round.

His involvement last night also meant he reached the same number of appearances this year as he managed in the whole of last year.

The reds eased into the next round of the cup as they banished some of the demons from the weekend's game against Burnley.

On Saturday the reds hadn't been clinical - but they made amends last night.  Origi starting the goal rout, and second half substitute Sturridge putting in a more assured display than against Burnley - adding two late goals.

Speaking to LFC after the game he said:

"It was a great team performance and it's good to get the victory

"It was down to us to get the result, down to us to go out there and improve on what we did at the weekend and we did that."

"We're like that all the time, we always want to try to keep scoring goals, keep performing, and keep making the results as good as possible.

"We want to win. We always want to win every game, regardless of the competition. It's important if it's a friendly or whatever, we always want to win."

Sturridge's two goals were his 10th and 11th of 2016 in a Liverpool shirt (from 21 appearances) - already a huge improvement on a disappointing 2015 when he scored just 8 goals for the reds (also in 21 appearances).
