Kuyt set to miss Dutch return

Dirk Kuyt has been assessed at Melwood this morning by Liverpool’s medical team following his training ground injury, sustained while on international duty.

A statement from Dr Brukner on Liverpool’s website said:

“Dirk has damaged his shoulder at the A-C joint (acromioclavicular joint), which is between the collar bone and the shoulder. He is likely to be out for four weeks.”

The reds face trips away to Manchester United as well as the opening game in the Europa League group against Steaua Bucharest at Anfield.  The reds are also set to play in the Netherlands at the end of the month when they travel to Utrecht, the club with which Kuyt began his professional career.

In his final season at Utrecht he won the Dutch Cup as well as the personal honour of the Dutch Golden Shoe winner, before leaving the club for Feyenoord – the side Utrecht had dispatched in the final.

Liverpool fans will be hoping that tonight’s international games go off without any further Anfield injuries.
