Torres to undergo scan

Torres kisses the World Cup during yesterday's celebrations

After the celebrations of yesterday amongst Spain and the national team, Fernando Torres will today undergo a scan in Madrid.

Initial fears that he pulled up with a hamstring injury appear to have diminished and he is now believed to have suffered a groin injury which could be anywhere from 3-8 weeks out depending on the severity.

Members of Liverpool’s fitness team will travel out to Spain to find out more about the players injury, before he is due to take a holiday before returning to Liverpool.

Dr Peter Brukner, the reds new Australian head of Sports Science, said he didn’t believe the injury was too serious, and took some positivity from the fact he could walk up the stairs to help collect the trophy and seemed to be moving relatively pain-free.

Fernando Torres was plagued with injuries throughout the whole of last season, playing a part in only 50% of Liverpool’s matches – however he still finished the season as the club’s top scorer.
