Jose Enrique and Liverpool go their separate ways

Liverpool defender Jose Enrique has been told he is no longer required at Melwood as the reds enter their final week of the season.

The player is now free to sign a contract with another club - even though he has one month left on his Anfield deal.

Despite a rare couple of outings in cup games this season, the defender has been surplus to requirements at Liverpool in recent years and both the club and player have now agreed he should find a new club.

The 30 year old joined Liverpool back in 2011, signing a five year contract after the reds paid Newcastle £7M for his services.

He made 78 appearances in his first two seasons as he cemented the left back position.

However in 2013-14, a season which saw Liverpool finish runners up, he suffered injury setbacks and would only play another 20 times for Liverpool in the following 3 years.

He memorably had to go in goal for Liverpool for the final 13 minutes of a league game against Newcastle - Pepe Reina having been sent off.  He kept a clean sheet in those 13 minutes but the reds were already 2-0 behind.

Enrique will also be remembered for his amusing posts on social media - he eventually removed his social media accounts due to the 'distraction' they were causing.

We wish Jose all the best for the future.
