Jurgen Klopp on 2-0 v Leeds: ‘No prize for beautiful football’

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was pleased with the outcome of the win over Leeds United - a trip to the club's 4th League Cup semi final in 6 years.

The reds have now reached the semi final of the tournament an incredible 17 times - a record for any English club.

A more inexperienced LFC side battled through against dogged resistance but the arrival of Ben Woodburn onto the field coincided with 2 goals in the final quarter of the game.

Divock Origi started the ball rolling before Ben Woodburn became Liverpool's youngster ever goalscorer - at the age of 17 years and 45 days - beating Michael Owen's long-held record (he was 3 months older than Woodburn when he scored his first LFC strike).

Speaking immediately after the game to the TV media Klopp said:

'In the last third we could have done better.  In the second half we created more around the goals so it was a deserved win.

'It's not about getting a prize for the most beautiful football - it's about going to the next round, going to the semi's.  And we're going to the semi's and we're the first team into the semi's. So all good.

Asked about Ben Woodburn becoming the youngest ever goalscorer for LFC the manager said:

'Well we (LFC) are nearly 125 years old and I'm quite surprised that there was never a younger one but to be honest with Ben we know how young he is, but it doesn't look like this.

'In training he grows quicker than other players in his skills.  It's a nice story and all the players are really happy for him - they're all smiling in the dressing room.  It's a good moment for him and a good moment for us.

Liverpool await the semi final draw which will be held after tomorrow night's games.  Hull join Liverpool in the semi final draw after overcoming Rafa Benitez' Newcastle United side in a penalty shoot-out.
