Trent gets England World Cup 2018 call up

Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold have been included in England's World Cup squad by coach Gareth Southgate.

In March 2018 Trent took part in training with the senior squad while on England Under-21 duty.

This is his first call up to the senior squad in international football's biggest competition.

With long-standing injuries to Nathaniel Clyne - Trent Alexander-Arnold has pushed on this season to become an important member of the reds side despite suffering some setbacks along the way, such as during Liverpool's defeat at Old Trafford.

However, he helped the reds get over the line and secure a top four finish as well as their journey towards next weekends Champions League final.

LFC club captain Jordan Henderson will be attending his fourth successive major tournament with England having made his debut in November 2010 and being involved in Euro 2012 and 2016 and the ill-fated World Cup of 2014.

Adam Lallana, who has suffered a difficult season on the sidelines, is one of five members on standby for the competition which gets underway on the 14th June.

The likes of Nathaniel Clyne and Daniel Sturridge are also notable absentees from the squad.

The reds provided 5 players of the 23 man squad in 2014 and also 5 players for the Euro 2016 squad.

Coach Gareth Southgate expressed his pleasure with his selections.

"I believe this is a squad we can be excited about.

"It is a young group but with some really important senior players, so I feel the balance of the squad is good, both in terms of its experience, its character and also the positional balance."
