Liverpool won their first European away game of the season when they needed to - halting the German giants' run of 7 consecutive Quarter Final appearances.
After a cagey opening to the game, it was Liverpool who took quick control of the match and eventually ran out early winners
All this despite Jordan Henderson (back in the side alongside the returning James Milner) heading off the pitch in the 12th minute through injury. Fabinho was the man to replace him in that early substitution.
Bayern Munich might have left Anfield two weeks ago hailing their 0-0 draw, but failing to score an away goal handed Liverpool a technical advantage.
And so it proved when Sadio Mane opened the scoring after collecting a ball at the edge of the Munich area. With Manuel Neuer coming out to collect, Mane swiveled with the ball before popping the ball into the back of the net.
It was a tremendous goal from Mane, who is enjoying a purple patch in front of goal over the past couple of months.

Munich did grab an equaliser back before the first half was out after Matip got a touch on a deep cross into the box. It was harsh on the former Bundesliga player, who had an otherwise very good game partnering Virgil van Dijk.
There was little sign immediately in the second half that Munich would come out all guns blazing and it was Liverpool who gradually wrestled control as Bayern's players appeared to tire more quickly.
The reds extended their lead in the second half thanks to the goalscoring machine that is Virgil van Dijk. He headed in from a James Milner cross.
Liverpool were almost over the line so how about another goal from Sadio Mane to push them there. He extended the reds lead and left Bayern Munich with zero chance of progress - heading in from a Mo Salah cross.
A perfect night for Liverpool - and a good night for Jurgen Klopp in his 35th game managing a team versus Bayern.
Liverpool's name remains in the Champions League hat - one of four teams in the last 8 of the competition. It looks an almost certainty that at least two English clubs will face each other in the Quarter Finals.
