Swansea 1-0 Liverpool: LFC lose to team at bottom a week after beating team at top

One week after ending Manchester City's unbeaten Premier League record dating back almost a year they threw away their 18 game unbeaten run by losing to the team at the bottom of the Premier League.

Liverpool. A team of exquisite talent but not enough moral fibre it seems - a team still under development.

Alfie Mawson's 40th minute goal was enough to separate the sides as Liverpool, under the captaincy of wantaway Emre Can, drew a rare blank in front of goal.

The reds almost equalised in the dying minutes of the game but for a misplaced header from Adam Lallana and a control failure from Roberto Firmino.

Virgil van Dijk, the world's most expensive defender, proved culpable in Swansea's goal when his header meekly allowed the ball to trickle towards Alfie Mawson who put away the only goal of the game.

Liverpool had chances but were wasteful in front of goal - and instead of bolstering their top four chances they have drifted further behind the top 2 and 3 in the Premier League.

A five point gap could have been opened up by Liverpool on 5th placed Spurs but the London club will sense they are still heavily involved in the race for Champions League qualification for next season.

The reds have been in great form since the Wembley defeat in October.  They must now pick themselves up and attempt to being another 18 game unbeaten run.

This result will only add to concerns that the Philippe Coutinho money is not allowed to 'rest' in Liverpool's bank account for too long.

A pitiful night in south Wales for Liverpool.
