LIVERPOOL v NEWCASTLE UNITED
FA Premiership @ Anfield
20th September 2006 @ 19:45
Season start betting amount: £20
Current LFC betting total: £18.50

Kromkamp Background

The reds are staring down the barrel after another slow start to another season. Four points from four games. Will fortress Anfield be our saviour - let's hope our season starts agains the Toon.

The reds have won their last 5 Anfield Premiership games and need a victory to ensure they avoid their worst start to a Premiership season.

Stats

Liverpool could go back in to the top ten with a win - but could fall to within one place of the relegation zone with a defeat and on other results.

Last season's Anfield clash between the two clubs was on Boxing Day. The reds won 2-0 thanks to Gerrard and a Shay Given o.g, Lee Bowyer was sent off. In the Premiership's 13 meetings at Anfield - the reds have won 10 with Newcastle winning once. Fans will remember both 4-3 victories as two of the greatest games in the history of the Premiership.

Newcastle are currently two points ahead of the reds in 9th place.

Team News

The reds have no further injury concerns following the Chelsea game. Luis Garcia is in line for a recall to the starting XI. All eyes will be on whether Sami Hyypia deserves to regain his place in the side.

Shay Given is out for Newcastle after undergoing abdominal surgery. Craig Bellamy could be playing against his old club - if he does he will get a bad reception off the Toon fans after daring to fall out with Saint Shearer of Tyneside.

The ref is Mark Halsey. He has already dished out 1 red card and 6 yellow's in the two Premiership games he has referreed this season. He was the ref for last season's game.

Our Prediction

Red-tinted glasses time. We refuse to even think about anything less than a Liverpool win.

Anfield Online Prediction/Kiss of death: 2-0 to Liverpool (5/1)

Betting Latest

The bookies think the reds are racing certainties for the fixture! I can see a fair few Toon fans betting on Newcastle to win at an overpriced 6/1 (!) The reds are 1/2 favourites with the draw at 13/5.

Fancy a repeat of the 4-3 scoreline for the reds?? - a massive 200/1.

All the reds four strikers are 5/1 chances for first goalscorer and the reds to win by more than one goal is 6/4.

Our Bet: We haven't won the HJC any money yet thanks to the reds indifferent performances. £1 on the reds to win 2-0 and a £1 on Kuyt or Bellamy to get the first goal (depending on who starts!) both are at 5/1.
