Will Saviola be Torres foil?

by Anfield Online | Friday 12th June 2009 | @jd77

Javier SaviolaReports from the media in Spain suggest that Liverpool will purchase Javier Saviola, the out of favour striker, from Real Madrid for a figure of around £4.5 million.

The 27 year old Argentine has fallen out of favour at the Bernabeu since the arrival of Klaas Jan-Huntelaar for the Madrid side.

Liverpool were linked with an attempt to sign the player in January when Robbie Keane departed but with important fixtures between Madrid and Liverpool coming up – the deal was effectively dismissed.

However, the player has only one year left on his contract and Liverpool would offer the player an opportunity to get back in to the limelight.

Whilst his goalscoring record is not overly impressive at Madrid, his record at previous clubs Sevilla and Barcelona are.

    Good one. Get him Rafa.

I think Savi would be a snip at 4.5m but if they were trying to use him as bait for Alonso, Barca should pay at least 25m as Alonso is worth 30m. Liverpool do need Alonso as he is a GREAT team player but we do need another partner for Torres.

Smple if Alonso would be sold get Saviola and get Villa, Sell Lucas, Babel and Dossena and get Silva.

  • Neil

Yes please get rid of Dossena and Lucas.

If any club out there wants Xabi Alonso, it’ll be upwards of 50m (I feel that’s his true value. He’s one of the world’s best, and a much better team player than 80m ronaldo). If it’s flash-the-cash Real Madrid that comes knocking, it should rise to 75m. Wanna use Saviola as a makeweight? The price drops to 70m. Pay up and he’s yours…

I completely agree. This rubbish about 30m for alonso makes me laugh, these clowns obviously have no idea the class he brings to LFC. If real forked out half their franchise, I still would consider it a disgrace to let such quality walk away from Anfield.
The bid would indeed be ridiculous to get rafa to even consider moving alonso. upwards of 50m is accurate especially since the antics of rmadrid have blown the transfer market way out of proportion.

  • Kurt

Alonso is a quality player, and I dont want us to sell him. But is a 5m striker good enough to play for liverpool. Surely someone like David Villa or teves would be a better partnership for torres. Rafa should pay up
