Liverpool have finally completed the signing of 20 year old Serbian winger Lazar Markovic from Benfica.

The reds are rumoured to have paid around £20M for his services and he has signed a 5 year deal with an option for a further year.

Markovic didn't play in Benfica's Europa League final defeat - missing it through suspension.  He had a touchline fight with an opposition player after being substituted off.  Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg was the man brandishing the cards that night.

Markovic's early career was spent in his native Serbia where he began with Borac Čačak.  He moved to Partizan Belgrade in 2011, where he would first experience Champions League football.

He joined Benfica a little over 13 months ago and was part of the Benfica side that won the Primeira Liga for a record 33rd time.  He played 49 times, scoring 7 times as Benfica also added two domestic trophies to complete a treble.

Markovic has represented Serbia at U17 and U21 level and has made a successful transition to the senior squad, with 12 caps to his name.

On joining Liverpool, Markovic offered this to Liverpool supporters:

"I went to Partizan and won the title. I went to Benfica and won the title. Now I have joined Liverpool and want to win the title, 100 per cent.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers added:

"He was hugely impressive for Benfica last season and has proved he has the ability to produce the goods in European competition as well, which will be important for us.

"Lazar is flexible to play a number of positions, but I like the way he attacks games and is always positive and looking to make something happen. He will fit in with the way we play at Liverpool.

"Getting him at such a young age is also very pleasing for us, because we will be able to work with him to develop his talent within our group and improve him even further.

Markovic becomes LFC's 4th summer signing, alongside Lallana, Lambert and Emre Can.

Liverpool kick off their pre-season campaign tomorrow when they play Brondby.
