Daniel Sturridge scored a goal in each half to ensure Liverpool progressed to the Quarter Finals of the League Cup despite a nervous final ten minutes.

The pre-match team news indicated a complete team change for the reds - with all eleven players from the weekend's win against West Brom replaced in the starting XI.  Trent Alexander Arnold and Ovie Ejaria were named in the starting line-up.

Danny Ings was named on the bench.

Spurs started in determined fashion - they had two corners within the first 90 seconds but it was Liverpool, through Kevin Stewart, who got the first shot away.

Klopp sat on the touchline applauding the youngsters effort - a clear indication he wanted his youngsters to seize their opportunity.

It wasn't long before Liverpool got themselves ahead.

Marko Grujic won the ball in the 9th minute, capitalising on a midfield slip by Spurs and fed Daniel Sturridge deep inside the penalty area who poked home to put Liverpool 1-0 up.

Sturridge had further chances in the half and should have done better when he was free on the left hand side of the box - a weak shot easily collected by Michael Vorm.

Second half

From the start of the second half the reds looked determined to add more goals to their game.

Origi stepped up a gear or two and had his name sung a number of times in the following 15 minutes.  He attempted a shot from outside the box that Vorm did well to tip over the crossbar.

But it was Wijnaldum who sent a delightful through ball for Sturridge - the Liverpool forward was in acres of space and coolly placed the ball into the Kop goal.

Sturridge went on to flick another shot onto the crossbar - he could have had a couple if not three more goals to his name.

But Liverpool were left to rue some of these missed chances when with 15 minutes to go they conceded a penalty.  It was a soft one to concede but Lucas was over-zealous in his penalty box defending.

Janssen stepped up and converted to end Mignolet's hopes of a clean sheet and add some real tension to the final phase of the game.

But the reds held firm and go into tomorrow night's Quarter Final draw.
