Liverpool Football Club today confirmed they will play in Hong Kong this summer and also play the Thailand national team in Bangkok as part of their summer tour of the Far East in July.

A scheduled match in Shanghai, China, has been postponed, with the team now travelling to Bangkok as part of the tour.

The match in Hong Kong on Sunday, July 27, at the Hong Kong stadium will provide a tremendous boost to both Hong Kong fans and the international sports scene here.

The Worthington Cup holders have made good their promise to play in Hong Kong on July 27, in an eagerly awaited match that will act as part of the club's build up to the 2003-2004 English Premiership season.

Said Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier: "The whole team is really looking forward to playing in Hong Kong. After all the problems with SARS, we are delighted to be able to give our fans in Hong Kong something truly spectacular to look forward to."

The match in Bangkok against the Thailand national team on Thursday, July 24, revives memories of Liverpool's tour in the summer 2001 when the Reds last played here.

The Liverpool team were treated to unprecedented scenes of joy and jubilation with fans queueing outside the team hotel for a glimpse of their heroes.

Reds boss Houllier and his players have fond memories of the last visit.

Said Houllier: "The whole team is really looking forward to playing in Bangkok. We have very good memories of our time in Thailand."
