TWO SPANISH MIDFIELDERS SIGN

Real Madrid right midfielder Antonio Nunez has signed a three year deal at Anfield and trained at Melwood yesterday, and the transfer of Real Sociedad's centre midfielder Xabi Alonso is expected to be completed after the Spanish friendly game on Wednesday night.

Nunez is rated as a £3 million signing but was free under the terms of the Owen deal. The player recently said:

"Even if Owen hadn't signed for Madrid, I already had an offer from Liverpool and I knew that the manager was keen to sign me, which is something to be proud of. Last season, I found out how hard it would be to play at Real and I know Liverpool will be the same, but I hope to get some more minutes on the pitch.

"It is never going to be satisfactory, leaving the best team in the world but playing for Liverpool is a dream come true for any player."

Xabi Alonso weighs in as a £10 million move but his transfer could spell the end of Dietmar Hamann's career.

The new midfield could consist of Kewell, Gerrard, Alonso and Nunez, and Didi may find his position as a first team regular threatened.
