GERRARD: 'I'VE GOT THE MONEY NOW I WANT THE MEDALS'

Steven Gerrard has spoken of his burning ambition to lift the Premiership title as Liverpool skipper and revealed that the desire to win medals far outweighs any financial motives.

The 23-year old Reds captain has enjoyed a successful career to date and, despite being financially set up for life, he's hungry for more silverware - with the championship number one on his list of priorities.

He says: "It's not about money any more because I've been paid well for five or six years so I'm secure, I can look after my family. It's all about winning things now, about getting into the Champions League to make myself a better player and fill up my trophy cabinet.

"I've got five or six medals, which isn't bad for a 23-year-old, but I want the big ones now, I want a Championship medal.

"Coming from my background, money isn't the be-all and end-all of life. I've lived without it in a family that's not had much, so when I first started it was all about playing well and winning trophies.

"I wouldn't want people to be standing around in the pub after I retire and say, 'Oh yeah, he earned a few quid out of the game, he did well, he's sound'.

"I'd rather they say, 'He was a good player, he won this for Liverpool, he did this and that, what a career he had'.

"That's how I want to be remembered, that's the stage I want to progress to. Money's great but it's trophies and medals that make a career. And I need the big ones now."
