SPANISH DEFENDER EXCITED ABOUT ANFIELD MOVE

Spanish defender Josemi says that he is excited about his proposed move from Malaga to Liverpool, which could also see El Hadji Diouf move in the opposite direction.

Reds boss Rafa Benitez has looked to Spain for his first signing and it looks as though a €4 million deal has been struck with Malaga for their full back.

The 24-year-old is currently in Switzerland on a pre-season tour with Malaga but was pleased with the deal that would see his club collect some cash and also see him move to The Premiership.

Josemi says that the presence of Spanish coach Benitez at Anfield influenced his decision to accept the move.

"Malaga will make some money in what is a great deal, and I go to one of the top clubs in Europe," said Josemi.

"And above all the trainer is a Spaniard like Benitez, which was partly a reason for me as well.

"I am going to work at a top club. It is what I have always done since I have been a soccer player."

The move may also see Malaga given the opportunity to land Anfield misfit El Hadji Diouf.

The Senegal international has flopped since his £10 million move to Merseyside and former boss Gerard Houllier has labelled him as the biggest disappointment of his reign.

Diouf has not been handed a squad number by Benitez and The Reds flew out to America on tour without the African forward.

Malaga boss Gregorio Manzano is, nevertheless, an admirer of the former Lens man and he may be allowed to take him on loan for the season - with a view to a permanent switch.
