LIVERPOOL TO LOSE THEIR CAPTAIN

Midfielder Steven Gerrard will miss England's final World Cup qualifier against Poland on Wednesday due to an injury that will keep him out of action for up to three weeks.

Gerrard, who played in Saturday's 1-0 win over Austria which helped England qualify for the finals, had a scan on a leg problem that revealed a strain in the muscle attached to his left shin.

He has returned to Liverpool for treatment and a club spokesman said he would be out for two to three weeks - ruling him out of the league game against Blackburn Rovers, Champions League trip to Anderlecht and probably the away league game at Fulham on October 22.
