DJIMI LEAVES THE REDS

Djimi: The Enigma

Djimi Traore has left Anfield for Charlton Athletic in a £2 million move.

The Liverpool left back and Mali international has signed a 3 year deal at The Valley, with Charlton beating off late offers from Everton and Newcastle United. Houllier signed the player for £500,000 so Rafa really has performed a minor miracle!

Djimi is equally remembered for his shocking own goal which knocked the reds out of the FA Cup at Burnley in 2005, but also his dramatic goal line clearance in that final against AC Milan in Istanbul.

He certainly was a character. A flawed genius or one of Houllier's less than impressive buys. Who knows, but we wish the player the best of luck at Charlton, no doubt he will have a blinder when we meet them in the Premiership!

We have had a poll on the website for some time asking What should we do with Traore? It was all in the spirit of fun remember...!

51% of you wanted him sent to the glue factory. 40% wanted him to get sold to Everton, and 8% wanted him in Liverpool's first team. Today's news will obviously be a massive blow to the 8% - you crazy fools!

Here are some of the quotes from the forum thread....

One of the best bits about the build up to the Everton game was the immortal words I heard on the radio. 'Liverpool's only injury doubt is Djimi Traore.....'.
Priceless. posted by Rushie

The replies are a bit harsh on Djimi. Remember he did clear the ball off the line in the champs league final. If he didn't then maybe we wouldn't have the five stars. posted by Ironman

Another Houllier balls up. Traore is'nt a bad player by any strectch but he does not possess the LFC class. Good luck to the fella,he will always have that Champions League medal. posted by Xabi 1309
