DIRK KUYT - THE FACTS

So much fuss over a ginger.

We have watched on over the past 48 hours at the whole Dirk Kuyt Liverpool - Newcastle saga with disbelief.

One of the unofficial LFC sites has been publishing a new story on the Dutchman seemingly every 10 minutes with a new 'exclusive' update (although this was a website with a vested interest in the Toon army).

At the weekend a Newcastle United based site published a 'spoof' story quoting the player directly who was alleged to have said he wanted to join Newcastle not Liverpool. Even the broadsheets today were suckered in to this story.

How can this happen? Surely the line 'I would prefer to join Newcastle over Liverpool' suggests the story was a complete fabrication. Let's fact it, even Michael Owen didn't really want to join them.

So we thought we would shed some clarification on the current state of play, to save you some time from certain other websites continuous updates every time the player goes the toilet.

Dirk Kuyt plays for Feyenoord. The reds are prepared to pay £9 million for him. Feyenoord were originally expecting £11-£13 million. With the leagues about to start their stance is softening and they are resigned to losing the player.

Newcastle are garbage. As a result they feel compelled to offer crazy money to the player and club. Liverpool and Rafa refuse to pay over the odds on wages. Dirk Kuyt would prefer to move to Liverpool obviously.

Both Rick Parry and Rafa Benitez are working on an offer that will be acceptable to the club and player.

When or If the player signs for Liverpool then we will have all the information on the player. Until then I don't want to hear any more sentences that involve Kuyt, Newcastle, Feyenoord or Dutchman. And shame on the national press - check your sources in future.
