REDS RESPOND TO SPECULATION

You may have read some of the 'stories' doing the rounds on the net about a Spanish investment in to the reds. As we reported yesterday these were highly unlikely to materialise as the man concerned doesn't seem to have anywhere near the financial backing required to launch a stake in to Liverpool.

Because of the constant speculation the reds, and Rick Parry, have released a statement indicating the position hasn't changed - the reds are still looking for investment opporunities and talking to a number of investors.

The official statement from Liverpool read:

"The board of Liverpool FC has noted the recent press speculation concerning possible third-party investment into the club and can confirm that it is continuing discussions with a number of parties regarding a potential investment of new funds into the club.

"Although the structure of any such investment is uncertain, it may include an offer for the entire share capital of the club. Shareholders will be kept updated as appropriate."

Rick Parry later added,

"Due to the reports over the weekend, we were obliged to make a statement and write to shareholders. It's a formality, but there has been no change to the situation.

"Our position regarding the need for investment has been well documented, not least at February's AGM which was reported extensively by the media at the time.

"The Board has not changed its strategy and despite the comments attributed to so called experts this afternoon, this is not fresh news."
