Torres: An Intimate Portrait – Book Review

Torres Intimate Portrait BiographyMy holiday read this year was the new biography of Liverpool’s star centre-forward Fernando Torres.  Torres: An Intimate Portrait… is a well written book on the man who rose to captain his boyhood team, Atletico Madrid, at the mere age of 18 to eventually go on to join Liverpool FC and set a new record for goals scored in a debut season by an overseas player.

Nando then went on to score the goal that clinched Spain the European Championship in the summer of 2008.

There is no doubt that Torres possesses the qualities and mental attitude that all Liverpool fans expect of their footballers, and from the very first chapter in the book – fans comment on the impact of the man from Espana.

The book moves easily through the story of Torres’ career, with chapters punctuated by revealing interviews with his coaches in Spain, team-mates at Atletico, Liverpool and the Spanish national side – and some of the biggest names in World Football.

From the day that his mother banned him from his favourite position of goalkeeper to the most feared striker in World Football – this book covers it all. It’s a great read and a solid addition to any Liverpool fans library.

The author, Luca Cacioli is a renowned Italian sports journalist who has worked all over European sports networks, and has been based in Spain for the last 8 years.

Torres: An Intimate Portrait of the Kid who Become King was released in paperback on 13th August 2009.

It retails at £7.99 but you can buy this book with a discount from Amazon
