Hillsborough papers released to families

The families of the 96 supporters killed at Hillsborough are examining the report of the Hillsborough Independent Panel, which was released today.

The documents will be made public later today, ahead of a planned two minute silence in Liverpool at 3.06pm - the time the FA Cup Semi Final was abandoned on the 15th April 1989.

The Independent Panel looked at more than 400,000 documents relating to the disaster 23 years ago.

Liverpool fans have long campaigned for the truth to be revealed, suggesting there was an element of a cover-up and collusion between the South Yorkshire Police Force, Sheffield City Council and the Government - in a campaign to deflect the blame on to the fans.

Alongside the two minutes silence - today will also see the report discussed in the Houses of Parliament, and there will be a vigil held in Liverpool City Centre early this evening.
