Mamadou Sakho the toast of France as he sends them to the World Cup

Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho helped France overcome a 2-0 deficit to snatch a place in the World Cup Finals.

Sakho scored the first goal of the game before Benzema levelled the tie before half time.

Then with less than 20 minutes remaining, centre-half Sakho grabbed the winner to cement his name in the nation's footballing history and book their place in next years World Cup in Brazil.

Meanwhile, back at Wembley, Roy Hodgson oversaw England's first consecutive defeats at Wembley in 36 years, when Germany trotted out to a simple 1-0 win over the three lions.

Of more importance to Liverpool fans will be our players involvement.

Gerrard played 56 minutes before being replaced by Jordan Henderson.  Daniel Sturridge did play the entire game however, which may not go down too well with Brendan Rodgers ahead of the Merseyside derby on Saturday lunchtime.
