Match Preview – Fulham (a)

FA Premiership
Sat 4th April 2009 @ 5.30 pm, Craven Cottage

Liverpool have a great opportunity to get back on top of the Premier League, albeit briefly, when they travel to Fulham on Saturday evening. Fulham took all three points two weeks ago against Manchester United, but the reds will be hoping to reverse the Londoners’ luck and continue the reds excellent recent form.

Liverpool’s 0-0 home draw against Fulham earlier this season was one of a number of miserable home draws that have made a title charge more difficult this season.

The reds record away at Fulham is a little on the disappointing side, prior to last seasons 2-0 win, the reds were beaten in the league in both 05/06 and 06/07 without even grabbing a goal.

Neither of the reds two goalscorers from last season are at Anfield – Pennant and Crouch.

Fulham are hoping to get in to European football next season, a win could take them up to 7th place in the league.

The reds will be keeping a close eye on both Hyypia and Benayoun’s fitness ahead of this game.  As the rest of the squad returns there appear to be no injuries, for a change, after the international outing. Mascherano may be a doubt due to the effects of playing at altitude in South America.

History

The reds have played 28 games away at Fulham, being beaten 9 times and running out winners on 12 occasions.
