Brondby score late winner as Liverpool begin pre-season

Liverpool's pre-season is underway although a late winner fell to Brondby.

Joe Allen v Brondby

LFC Starting XI: Jones, Kelly, Ilori, AGGER, Smith, Lucas, Rossiter, Coutinho, Suso, Borini, Teixiera

LFC Substitutes (All used): Ward, Allen, Ibe, Coady, Skrtel, Flanagan, Adorjan, Phillips, Wisdom, Lloyd Jones, Peterson, Stewart

Daniel Agger was named captain as he returned to the club he left in 2005 to join Liverpool.  Despite the youthfulness of the side Liverpool's youngsters looked composed on the ball and Coutinho settled quickly suggesting he had maintained his fitness well over the summer months.

The reds managed to give all 23 players a run-out during the fixture.

Tiago Ilori, making his first appearance since returning from a loan spell, was forced off after 20 minutes with what appeared to be a hamstring injury.  Recent Academy signing, Kevin Stewart, came on and the defence was reshuffled.  Moments later Brondby had opened the scoring.  Kevin Stewart headed the ball away, but Suso couldn't help his younger team-mate clear the danger and Christian Norgaard fired in from outside the area.

Borini and Coutinho had their chances in the first half.  The Italian looking a little rusty after a summer away - a situation he will have to rectify quickly to ensure he has an opportunity at Anfield.

Half time brought with it 10 substitutions and early on two of our youngsters combined to get Liverpool level.

Jordan Ibe, who was a constant menace throughout the second half, with a powerful run downfield before sliding the ball across for Kristoffer Peterson to dispatch.

Ibe should have added some goals to his assist - the 18 year old will be desperate to improve his finishing to add to the excellent array of talents he possesses.

More substitutes, including the keeper, led to a more interrupted second half.

In the first minute of injury time, Brondby grabbed a winner.  Hasani found it too easy to waltz through the reds defence before firing home.

Brondby begin their competitive season this weekend around the same time as many of Liverpool's players will return to the squad ahead of the US tour.
