Yossi to sign new contract

Yossi Benayoun will add another  year on to his Liverpool contract after being rewarded for an excellent season at Anfield last year.

The 29 year old Israeli had an impressive finish to the season, more than taking up the slack after Robbie Keane left the club.  Talks have been ongoing and the player will receive an extra year on to his Liverpool contract which will take him through to the summer of 2012.

Rafa has also moved to offer three year contracts to midfielder Jay Spearing and right back Stephen Darby, both of whom saw action for Liverpool in the Champions League last season.

Benitez said:

“We had to guarantee the future of the club first and then afterwards if you can improve then you must try to do so.

“This meant that the first thing we had to do this summer was to guarantee the futures of some of the players who are already here and we are happy that we have been able to do this in so many cases.”

Yossi to sign new contract

  1. Benayoun is one of the most underrated players in the Premier League. Chuffed to bits he’s signed up, he’s class.
Great news about Spearing and Darby aswell. If Arbeloa goes especially Darby will have a shot at playing some games next season and I was hugely impressed with Spearing when he came on in the Champions League against Real Madrid. Couple of fantastic players we have there.

  2. Perfect news! good for liverpool!! it was a big mistake from rafa not playing yossi most of the times last season!? otherwise title would have been ours! its pity! torres is right when he said yossi should always play!

  3. Glad to see that Yossi has signed. He’s a very underrated player yet very effective and skillful.Should be in the starting line-up most times.

  4. good i reckon he’ll have a place at liverpool even if we do sign someone like david silva. maybe he’ll only be on the bench but he is a class player so im glad he’s staying
