Anne Williams, who has been campaigning tirelessly for over 23 years to uncover the lies surrounding her son Kevin's death at Hillsborough, has been diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Her 15 year old son was killed at Hillsborough, and she uncovered evidence that her son was still alive, and asking for his Mum, long after the 3:15 cut off imposed at the time.
While recent weeks have seen the unmasking of the scale of the police and institutional cover up - Anne has been struggling with bowel cancer and will now move in to a hospice near Southport.
The Attorney General recently announced he would petition the High Court to rule for new inquests in to the 96 who died - inquests that were flawed and effectively absolved the authorities for their role in not only causing the disaster but of compounding their actions with a disgraceful response.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo she said:
"I'm still getting my head around the whole thing.
"I don't want to know how long I've got because I just want to enjoy whatever time is left with my family and friends.
"I want to thank everyone who has helped me over all the years, the barristers and forensic pathologists who waived fees to enable me to get through the system as well as the people of Merseyside who believed in what I was trying to do when it felt like no-one else was listening.
"They supported me because they knew I was right and I'll be always be grateful for that.
"I'll keep on fighting – I've been doing it for long enough – but I'm not an idiot and know how serious this is.
"I did watch the debate from parliament this week and it was good to see things start to move forward - I just hope I get the chance to see justice for my Kevin and for the 96."
Anne had petitioned countless Governments down the years, Conservative and Labour, for a new inquest in to her sons death - even taking the matter to the European Court of Human Rights, but the authorities continually closed ranks to deny justice for her son.
The news comes just day after Sir Norman Bettison, former Chief Constable of West Midlands police, resigned with his knighthood intact - with a generous pension of more than £80k per year paid for by taxpayers.
